Junxiao Leng is a Ph.D. Candidate at Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo. Her research focuses on transnational feminist public spheres in contemporary Japan. Questions she poses in the project thereby include: How do we understand the heightened visibility of a tōjisha-centered public sphere in Japan? What distinct challenges do sexual violence tōjisha face when they seek to speak out, compared to those in the U.S.? And how should non-tōjisha engage with these issues? To answer these questions, her research centers upon the socio-cultural processes of tōjisha activism, examining how it blurs the boundaries between society and the state, grassroots movements and elite institutions, while also considering its limitations. Administratively, she coordinates with invited scholars and organizes online public events.
