Dr. Evan Koike is a project assistant professor at Tokyo College, University of Tokyo. His research analyzes shifting gender ideologies, masculinities, and family relationships in contemporary Japan. His other research interests include fertility rates, volunteerism, and rural lifestyles in East Asia. He is currently writing his first book manuscript, tentatively titled “Fellowships of the Daddies: Situating Fatherhood within Japanese Civil Society.” Drawing on more than two years of ethnographic fieldwork in the Greater Tokyo Area, the book will explore incomplete shifts in the values and behaviors of men involved in grassroots groups focused on parenting.
